THE ROLE OF COMMUNITIES AND NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS IN IMPLEMENTING AND DELIVERING THE PROGRAM OF MEDICAL-PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE FOR TEMPORARILY INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS
Abstract
Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, internally displaced persons (IDPs) face significant psychological stress and traumatic events due to the loss of their homes and fear for their safety. Providing effective psychological support for IDPs becomes crucial for preserving their mental health and facilitating the recovery process [1, 13]. Communities and civil society organizations are increasingly becoming key actors in humanitarian efforts, assisting government structures in the development and implementation of aid programs. Understanding their role in providing medical-psychological assistance can contribute to the effectiveness of these programs. Additionally, communities and civil society organizations often have closer access to affected individuals and can provide more personalized, culturally sensitive, and accessible assistance than government structures. Understanding their role can help optimize the support system for IDPs. The article highlights research on the interaction between non-governmental organizations, communities, governmental structures, and their impact on the effectiveness and accessibility of the medical-psychological assistance program for internally displaced persons (IDPs). The research results confirmed that the developed model of medical-psychological assistance for temporarily displaced persons was created taking into account their basic needs and psychological characteristics resulting from war and displacement. This model includes components such as prevention of medical problems, medical-psychological rehabilitation, fostering positive attitudes towards affected individuals in society, organization of a special environment for communication through communities and non-governmental organizations, conducting psycho-correctional work, evaluating results, and potential correction. Additionally, active participation of communities and non-governmental organizations in the implementation of this program proved to be crucial in creating a conducive environment for the social adaptation and integration of IDPs due to the war in Ukraine.
