COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE OF A SOCIAL WORKER IN THE CONTEXT OF WORKING WITH MIGRANTS: FEATURES OF TRAINING IN UKRAINE AND CANADA

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the essence of the concept of communicative competence, the peculiarities of its formation during the training of social work specialists and its importance in the work of a social worker. The theoretical issues of communicative competence as the basis of effective and high-quality work of a social worker with clients in general and migrants in par ticular are considered. The views of modern scientists regarding the importance of communicative competence in the field of social work are highlighted. The situation with the migration of Ukrainians as a result of the war was analyzed and it was found out what help and support migrants in Ukraine and Canada can receive from state institutions and public and charitable organizations using the examples of Lviv and Toronto. It was determined that communication is the main tool for finding out people’s needs and problems and providing them with help. Two educational courses, at a Ukrainian university and a Canadian university, where communicative competence is formed in the process of professional training of future social workers students, are considered, using the example of educational programs of the relevant disciplines at a Ukrainian university and a Canadian university, and some common and distinctive features are noted.
