DIFFERENTIATION OF PTSD AND NEGATIVE STRESS-ASSOCIATED DISORDERS: THEORETICAL ANALYSIS AND RESEARCH METHODS

Keywords: PTSD, stress-associated disorders, differentiation, mental health, diagnosis, mental disorders

Abstract

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most studied and prevalent mental disorders that arise in response to traumatic events. However, PTSD is not the only disorder that can develop due to stressful situations. There are other negative stress-associated disorders that have similar symptoms but different etiological factors and pathogenetic mechanisms. Differentiating PTSD from other stress-associated disorders is critically important for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. This review aims to systematically examine scientific literature and psychodiagnostic methods used to study and distinguish these disorders. The significance of this research lies in improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, which will enhance the quality of life for patients suffering from these conditions. Changes in mental health among Ukrainians are becoming increasingly noticeable during the war, highlighting the importance of timely and qualified diagnosis of these conditions according to ICD-11 criteria. The purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic review of the scientific literature and to identify research methods aimed at studying PTSD and negative stress-associated disorders. In this review, open scientific sources focused on the diagnosis of PTSD and stress-related disorders were utilized. The analysis of scientific literature was conducted using review, systematic, and content analysis methods. The selection of materials was carried out through databases such as Google Scholar and PubMed, as well as through open resources of the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Psychological Association (APA), and government websites of Ukraine, the USA, and the United Kingdom. Analysis of current scientific literature and various research methods has shown that the questionnaires presented in this article can serve as effective tools for mental health professionals in the comprehensive diagnosis of PTSD and other negative stress-associated disorders. These tools contribute to accurate differentiation and the provision of appropriate treatment, which improves the quality of life for patients.
