AN INTEGRATED MODEL OF REDUCING THE STIGMATIZATION OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS: SOCIAL ACCOMMODATION, PSYCHOLOGICAL ADAPTATION AND EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTIONS IN UKRAINIAN COMMUNITIES

Abstract

The study is aimed at developing an integrated model of reducing the stigmatization of internally displaced persons in Ukrainian communities through a combination of three interrelated blocks: social accommodation, psychological adaptation and educational interventions. Methods used in the work: theoretical modeling of an integrated framework, structural and functional analysis of the model components, review and generalization of community practices and intersectoral initiatives, logical generalization method to link measures with expected results at the individual and community levels. A set of practices and policies that reduce bias and open up access to resources is identified: simplification of registration procedures, abolition of discriminatory norms, municipal housing programs, communication campaigns, joint public and volunteer initiatives. It is shown how these steps move the community from declarations to effective solutions. An operational definition and structure of the process is provided (cognitive restructuring, emotional regulation, coping strategies, resilience), a package of interventions is outlined: psychoeducation, mentoring, group and individual therapies, mobile teams, integration of support into the primary care setting. The legal basis for access to assistance is emphasized. A three-level structure has been formed: programs for local residents (attitude change), programs for IDPs (language, professional, civic competence), integration cultural and educational formats (joint events and projects), which consolidate the effects of the two previous blocks. Necessary prerequisites have been outlined: political and organizational support, consideration of the local context, sustainable financing, constant evaluation and correction. The proposed model can serve as a “road map” for communities: from creating a coalition and adopting local acts to launching pilots in three blocks and implementing monitoring. For educational institutions, this is a framework for integrating tolerance and civic education modules; for socio-psychological services, routing clients and strengthening the primary link; for local authorities and NGOs, it is a basis for planning sustainable IDP support programs and evaluating their effectiveness.
